Safeguarding and Behaviour
At XIC, every member of our community shares the responsibility for creating a safe, respectful and inclusive school where every child can learn, grow and thrive.
At Xàbia International College, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and underpins every aspect of school life. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where every student feels protected, valued and able to achieve their full potential.
We believe that positive relationships are the foundation of successful learning. Students are expected to demonstrate kindness, integrity, responsibility and respect for themselves, for others and for the wider community. These values are embedded throughout our curriculum, pastoral care and daily interactions.
Our approach to behaviour is restorative, educational and centred on helping students make positive choices. We establish clear expectations, celebrate positive conduct and support students in developing self-discipline, resilience and accountability. When difficulties arise, we work collaboratively with students and families to understand the circumstances, provide appropriate guidance and implement fair and consistent responses that promote learning and personal growth.
Creating a culture of respect means ensuring that every member of our community feels safe and included. Bullying, discrimination, harassment and any behaviour that undermines the dignity or wellbeing of others are never accepted. We promote openness and encourage students to speak to a trusted adult whenever they have concerns, confident that they will be listened to, supported and treated with sensitivity and respect.
Online safety is an integral part of safeguarding at XIC. Students are taught how to use technology responsibly, respectfully and safely, developing the knowledge and judgement required to navigate an increasingly digital world with confidence and integrity.
Safeguarding extends beyond protecting students from harm; it is about creating a culture in which every child feels known, heard and supported. Through strong partnerships between students, families and staff, we foster an environment where wellbeing, respect and personal responsibility enable every learner to flourish.
Discrimination, harassment & reporting concerns
No pupil should experience unfair or discriminatory treatment because of race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, language, sex or gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion or belief, disability, SEND, neurodiversity, health or additional needs, family structure, or social or economic circumstances. These examples are not exhaustive.
Racist, sexist, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, ableist or other discriminatory language or behaviour is unacceptable, in person or online. Staff challenge it appropriately: harmful comments must not be dismissed simply as jokes or banter.
- Pupils, parents and staff are encouraged to report discrimination, harassment or unfair treatment to an appropriate member of staff. Depending on the incident, the school follows pastoral, behaviour, anti-bullying and/or safeguarding procedures.
- Concerns about a pupil's safety or welfare are referred to the Safeguarding Team. When an incident meets the safeguarding threshold, staff record it on MyConcern and manage it under the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
- If parents or guardians believe a concern has not been appropriately addressed, they may use the College's Complaints Policy.
