Academic Integrity
Academic integrity means being honest about how work is produced, acknowledging other people's contributions and submitting work that reflects the student's own understanding. XIC's AI Use in Assessments policy sets out how artificial intelligence can support coursework while protecting fairness, transparency and the integrity of qualifications. It applies to students and staff using AI for coursework submission, assessment or grading.
Original work and responsible AI use
Students must not use AI to produce content that is not their original work or present AI-generated content as their own. Plagiarism and academic dishonesty are not acceptable; students remain responsible for understanding and complying with XIC's academic integrity requirements.
Declaring AI assistance
If an AI tool or algorithm assists with coursework, students must clearly disclose and attribute its use. They must identify the specific tool and explain the extent of its contribution to the final work. AI assistance must not be concealed.
The school may request additional documentation or evidence to verify the originality and authenticity of a submission produced with AI assistance. Families can support honest learning by encouraging students to explain their own work and be transparent about any assistance received.
When the school uses AI in assessment
- Students must be informed in advance if AI is used for grading, including which tools or algorithms are used and how they will be applied.
- The school monitors and evaluates AI systems, considers possible bias in training data and takes measures to prevent unfair assessment.
- AI may assist assessment, but qualified staff must review and validate AI-generated results. Final grading decisions always involve human oversight.
- Students may challenge AI-generated assessment results through the school's appeals process and request review by a human assessor if they believe there has been an error or unfair treatment.
Privacy, training and support
Student data used in AI-assisted coursework processes must be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws. XIC implements security measures to protect information from unauthorised access, use or disclosure.
XIC provides training and support for students and staff. Students learn about responsible AI use, its benefits and risks; staff receive guidance on evaluating AI-assisted work and maintaining fairness in assessment.
Breaches of the policy
Academic dishonesty, misuse of AI or failure to follow school guidelines may lead to disciplinary action under XIC's policies and procedures. The policy does not set a single automatic penalty for every case.
Policy review and further guidance
The policy has a 1-year review cycle. The school evaluates its implementation, considers feedback from students, staff and other stakeholders, and updates guidance as technology and academic standards evolve. Revisions must be communicated promptly and remain accessible to students and staff. This guidance is based on the supplied policy titled 2025/2026.
